In October of 2023, I was completely wet behind the ears when it came to quality footwear. I had 3 pairs to call my own, one of which was a hand me down and one was a clarks desert boot that I thought 'looked' cool. But, as the fine folks in the discord have told me, my first real pair was my dome pair. The GS Diesel boot in Natural Waxed Commander. And in the seven months that followed, it's not just the boots that matured and developed patina. It is the wearer too. Me. My understanding of this hobby got better, a lot of fog was lifted, a whole lot of new confusion was added, especailly when it comes to endless abyss of Sizing correctly. But something beautiful also happened. I found a genuine interest, a genuine connection, a genuine love of all things footwear. And this is an interest that will continue to evolve. My boots have travelled to 11 cities, been on stage more than a dozen times (I am an actor in the theatre), been through multiple family celebrations, outings and events. And though the photos dont tell the story in quite the detail they lived through, they still serve as a beautiful reminder to me. A reminder of everything we did together. And now ends the dome. Which only means that I wont have a ticking reminder to submit more photos. But these boots are going to be walking a lot more. I look forward to many years of evolution on this pair. I might not win anything in my debut dome, but the one undeniable prize that has already been rewarded to me is the relationship I now have with this pair. And of course, it helps greatly to have found a whole bunch of similarly crazy folks around the world, to keep fuelling this madness. Here's to many more kilometres in many more boots. But my first love, my GS diesels, will always have a special place in my heart (and my closet)
