Horween Natural Essex
These boots are a lesson in taking what life gives you. As I’m sure you noticed, my amazing natural Essex diesel boots had a little accident right after my month 2 photos. I was cleaning my cast iron when my best friend (my German shepherd, Simon) bumped into me and sent grease flying on to the toe of my dreamy new dome boots. That was it. It was all over and I may as well have pulled out then. They weren’t going to be the patina masterpieces that everyone else was submitting. But I stuck it out with them, nay!, they stuck it out with me. I continued to wear them. They traveled with me on long walks without a destination, and desperate interviews to make ends meet. And as the months went on, that beautiful Essex took on a dark, deep, new identity as a well loved, battle tested, and modest pair of boots that screamed “honest”. They not the most ascetically stunning. They’re not wrapped in a show stopping leather or polished and shined for best in show. They’re just mine. But they truly embody what the thunderdome is all about. A man on a good and honest journey with a trusty pair of boots.
