Horween Orange Predator
This was my very first Thunderdome, *chanting starts ”Two men enter, one man leaves” and it almost didnt happen. After leather shortages my boots, finally arrived the day before late entry closed, just in time to participate. Whew, that was a close one. To make up for lost time, I wore these boots everywhere, and I do mean everywhere; work, home, church, games, bed. Seriously, there were nights I fell asleep on the couch or putting my youngest down for the night. If I was going somewhere, these guys were on my feet. I just wanted them to break in, and then once they did, I didn’t want to take them off. Clocking over 1800 of hours of wear, over 3 miles (average) a day. You name it, and I probably did it in these boots. Of course some days were definitely busier than others. My biggest day of boot torture came in with 8.2 miles walked, 32 stories climbed, and over 16 hours logged on the job. I got home that night and thought that I had spilt something on my boots. A bright rust colored spot appeared on both boots. Turns out, after taking them off, they were sweat spots. These guys were literally bleeding after their long day. To make sure they stayed looking their best day after day, week after week, I brushed them down twice a week with a dry brush. Twice during the Dome, they received a little extra care with some leather conditioner. Once with some Brick 4, around early December. And again, after some extremely cold weather in late January, these guys got a good drink of Obenauf’s. For a little customization my brother made some custom boot laces for their journey. After countless hours and miles of wear I can easily say that these boots have been one of my favorites. Although I may may need a new heel soon, these bad boys will be in my constant rotation for a long time. I can’t say enough about the quality and craftsmanship that have gone into these boots. 5 months of literal abuse and after a good cleaning they look better than they did the day I got em!
