DOME It Dependently, sum of its parts combine to provide at its base a vehicle—one which carries us through our daily grind. While the choice to enter both categories was ambitious at best, it was required to be committed to the endeavor and dedicated enough choosing the right transportation for day-to-day needs. Researching last year’s submissions and podcast reviews vehicle choice was more than simply cosmetic and patina ease. They needed to last beyond competition: they needed to fulfill operational, mechanical and effective rigors. Operationally, we choose based upon needs to fulfill requirements. Needs in this case entail both work and play. The two pair had to hold up to severity of travel and flying and for that Nick’s was the builder of choice. So up for a long weekend to Spokane we went. Properly fitted and nerding out on the boot building process departed the fix with a pair in hand and one on order. The test at that point relied on mechanical suitability and whether chosen correctly. Mechanically, mission determines success of our choices. The choice in this DOME challenge proved to be the correct one to handle the extensive travel and flying while coupled with mundane of the office: BuilderPro and TankerPro. Multiple trips from coast to coast on commercial and military air; Arizona to Alaska, DC, Florida and Washington these two pairs have logged more air miles than all those currently within my collection combined. They have not only carried me operationally, but traveled independently on the likes of FEDEX, UPS & USPS to and from various locations. They even have their own travel bag! Obsession or insanity, either leads to effectiveness. Effectively, outcome is the ultimate determinant. Six months later and slipping into either pair is a win. They have handled everything thrown their way: sun, rain, snow, ice, pets, people, aircraft and temps from 80 to -22 degrees Fahrenheit. As their name implies they are pros among builder/tanker realms.
