Unlisted Leather

My first Thunderdome was a great experience, but I ended up doing half as well as I thought I would. I found out about it, 3 weeks before the competition. I went to the Red Wing store to see if they had any boots I could use. Once I got my boots and started, I realized that along with taking them on adventures, I had to care for them. Growing up I always had a pair of muck boots and Ariat boots. Care was easy, spray the muck boots and mink oil the Ariats. When you look up how to care for boots, you need to know what leather you have. Pecan Boundary, oil tanned. I took to discord and got suggestions. First Bick4, this conditioned the leather very well, I wasn’t getting the results I wanted. Next VSC, it shined beautifully, and didn’t hide any scrapes I got nor did it highlight them. These boots went everywhere with me for 5 ½ months! 2 granite quarries, 2 conferences, 3 semi trucks unloaded, 5 granite sheds, over 20 cemeteries, over 50 handmade wreaths, and over 200 christmas trees sold. On top of my everyday wear. My friends started to think I was crazy when I ended up rock climbing in them. The great adventure in “A bit of Ireland in Tennessee” Houston County. I showed up to the yearly Saint Patrick's Day celebration at Groundhogs, and as one does the moonshine consumption started, and kept going. However much you are thinking, add more. On the way home a stop was made on Old Hwy 18. We made it home that night, only to wake up to find I had exchanged my night of moonshine for my right boot. For the next week every day I would go looking for the lost boot. After over 15 hours spent on this search, I had to officially label my right boot MIA. This competition has been very fun. I have learned so much and found a new love for boots. Learning about different leathers and how to care for them. I can’t wait for the next Thunderdome to start, I would suggest that anyone should do it at least once, but please please don’t wear your boots if you are drinking moonshine!
