Since starting my journey in quality footwear, I gravitated towards the mantra of “own MORE, better quality goods” so the idea of the Patina Thunderdome wasn’t really something I was interested in. That is, until I actually joined the SDP community. I’ve got plenty of shelf queens that haven’t seen the light of day so to wear a boot for 6 months wasn’t something I thought I could accomplish. I chose a pair of Tricker’s Monkey Boots in shell cordovan because it’s A) a style I was interested in. A hybrid sneaker-esque boot and B) my favorite leather. I wore these boots everyday to work as a clinical pharmacist. I work in an oncology clinic as well as in the ICU. They’ve been with me while counseling patients on the initiation of their new chemotherapy regimens to potentially last day of some of their infusions. They’ve been with me during codes in the ICU and even on slow days while working at the computer. They also carried me through a trip in NYC where I walked ~10 miles everyday on my personal tour of trying the best pizza slices across the boroughs. Somewhere along the line I thought to myself “woah, these are comfortable…..is this what it’s like to have a pair of boots that are ACTUALLY broken in?” All of the scratches, scuffs and character they’ve developed remind me of the memories I’ve made during this entire journey and I truly have an appreciation for the craftsmanship of a quality maker that creates a boot that looks even better after 6 months of consistent wear. I can’t wait to see what the next few years have in store for them.
