2022 was a rather challenging year for many people, and despite working from home, I was unable to avoid my share of tribulations. I went through a difficult ending to a difficult romantic relationship, moved to a new state, and started going back to college again. In fall of 2022, I admittedly almost didn’t join the Dome because frankly, I had too much going on. Committing to another thing (even a small one) seemed more than I was capable of. However, many of the friends I made during the first Thunderdome were participating again, and I didn’t want to feel left out. So I signed up with a pair that I believed I was going to love the whole time, and wouldn’t you know it, I did love them! My Viberg engineers joined me in splitting firewood, walking along coastal intertidal zones, getting splashed by waterfalls, dancing at concerts, and singing my heart out at karaoke bars all over the Pacific Northwest. Through it all, I watched as the friends I’ve made through the Dome had their own adventures, challenges, and successes. Some of them even helped me move (in our Dome boots of course) at the beginning of 2023. As we conclude this Dome, I look forward to many more adventures in my boots, but with an acknowledgment that it was never just about boots.
