White's 350 Cutter

J&FJ Baker Brown Russian Calf

Its been a pleasure being apart of the Patina Thunderdome both as a sponsor and a participant. This contest was never about winning for me. I didn’t have these boots made specifically for this contest, but the timing surprisingly worked out. I wanted to demonstrate how J&FJ Baker & Co’s famous Russian Calf leather held up the abuse of every day wear and tear. Going into the contest there were plenty of photos showing boots made of the Russian leather that were new or gently used. Up to this point there hadn’t been anyone willing to say “fuck it, lefts walk through that puddle” or who had choosen the icy snow bank path over walking on the plowed street. And with good reason too. Its an expensive leather making a pair of boots using this leather even more expensive. I even felt the pull to keep these boots pristine prior to the start of the contest. But I was lucky enough to have had multiple pairs of boots made with the leather so I have an extra pair that I could abuse. I am happy with the results of my efforts in the contest. While there wasn’t dramatic changes in the leather, I am blown away by the how well the leather has held up over the last 6 months. Its has verified the claims of the tannery saying the leather is water resistance and hardwearing.
