Nicks Handmade Boots
I have worn them almost every day for six months. The first day of wear included their first of several multi-hour hour airplane rides - they even made it unscathed on foot through the precheck security screening. I wore them to business casual meetings. I walked about 4 city miles every day and they loved pavement pounding. I pulled my kiddo through many museums in them. They were great in the rain and decent in the snow - though different soles would be better on ice. They were perfect hiking in the woods. They scrambled well on rocks. They were surprisingly good boots for snowshoeing. I had better than expected ball control kicking around a soccer ball in them. There were very few occasions where I did not want to wear them. Once on foot, these chonky boys were wonderful. These boots were made for walkin, and that's just what they did.
Black CXL. You don't get much easier. They were comfortable off the bat and broke in quickly. I wiped them down with water every few days. I brushed them every few weeks and they shined up beautifully. I conditioned them with VSC a few months in and they looked like new. The tea core started to shine through about a month ago and it has continued to appear in new places every week or two. What can I say - CXL is great.
I first tried the last on at Boot Camp and was surprised at how well it fit. Enough room for the toes, after break-in the heel cupped well. The arch support was sufficient. I have only a few things I wish were a smidge different - space above the arch/ball, a little more 5th metatarsal room - but despite that, these are my most comfortable boots.
The construction of the boots are great. Solid and comfortable. I have no doubt that I will be comfortably wearing these for the rest of my life. Friends have been shocked by the weight, but on foot, it feels comforting, not heavy (after break-in). The construction is equally solid - no issues, they even kept my feet happy and dry in deep snow and plenty of wet streets. They are free range boots, so the finishing had a few quirks, but nothing to complain about. Regarding design, they are more chonky than sexy - but, they have softened over time and have gained a definite rugged charm. All in all, they get the job done and inspire confidence with aplomb.
I love a leather sole. Very comfortable with good ground feel. Not too thick and not too thin. Holding up strong with lots of wear. I added a topy pretty early, so I can't speak much to traction.
The topy has been great. Comfortable and good traction on (almost) all surfaces.
The moderate height block heel has been fine, no problems, it worked exactly as I expected and hasn't fallen off. I will likely convert it to a logger heel soon for mostly aesthetic reasons.
Great boots. I have tromped all over - through cold and damp and salt and snow and dirt and carpet and concrete and granite and marble. Aside from one or two ice patches, they never let me down. My feet were warm and happy and always wanted to keep going to see what was around the next corner. Over time their rugged good looks only increased as they became even more comfortable. If value is defined as miles per dollar, these are a great deal! I definitely recommend them - my only complaint, black CXL is hard to photograph!
