Nicks Handmade Boots
Last summer, Nicks boots did a limited run of the Tobacco WC in a Moc toe. At the time I was missing my 875 Red Wings. As luck would have it Nicks boots had my size so I ordered a pair.
I followed Nicks sizing guide as listed on their website. I went to a running store in town to get my brannock size, used a tailors measuring tape to measure foot circumference with a sock that I would generally be wearing. In my situation I was between two sizes so I called customer service to get a recommendation on what size to choose. The customer service rep recommended the following advice. If you want a snug fit go with your current measurement. If you want to have some extra room go a size up. Take good measurements down and call customer service with prepared questions. There were no modifications to the last.
Ordering experience was typical. I have all my last and boot measurements written down, so all I had to do was check to make sure the boots can be made to my measurements.
I’ve worn my Moc toe everyday in fall conditions.
This is my first Wickett & Craig leather boot from Nicks. The Double Stuffed (DS) Tobacco leather Moc toe style has been fantastic to use on a daily basis. Social media outlets such as Nicks and CarlMurawski Youtube channels have discussed in great depths about the break in process. Neither channel understated how this leather is stiff. The break in process for me was a few days in doors for a couple of hours then slowly using them outdoors for work. The leather has held up greatly under continuous use. I haven’t had the need to oil them yet. With regards to care, the most I have done is brush them with a horse hair brush and that is it. In some of the really dry areas of the boots I have applied Bick 4 leather conditioner. I probably won’t do a full clean until I return from PNW because I will be in some harsh conditions for leather.
The boot sizing from Nicks Buying guide is spot on. .5 size down from brannock and the width measuring guide was spot on as well. For me, the boot is a bit big. After adding some insoles the fit is snugged up.
Construction is solid and my feet are dry during a small rain shower. The stitching is solid and everything in general looks great about the boot. The silver hardware looks great.
The traction tread crepe wedge sole has been comfortable. All my other boots have red x soles and these are so much lighter. I’m hoping to get a few years out of them.
