Use & wear

Worn mostly to work and for trail hikes. 6” height is flexible, but lacks 8” ankle support. Vibram 430 outsole offered better wet weather traction than my V100s and trap less dirt. Wide welt protected the upper from excessive abrasions.

Leather

Horween Black Waxed Flesh

Minimal break-in required. Less color contrasting than my brown waxed flesh. Only brushed routinely with horsehair brush.

Fit

Satisfied with the Fit
Too Much Volume

As my first 270 stichdown HNW, the arch support feels low. There is insufficient space for a full length insole with arch support due to the low height toebox. In contract my 365 stichdowns have plenty of insole space. Instep is snug, but heel is loose.

Craftsmanship

Nicks MTO
Other

No particular craftsmanship concerns, although I wish the patterns were scaled better to different sizes, particularly along the heel and heelcup. Toecap looks excessively wide.

Sole & heel

Sole has a nice low profile look and offers some off road traction. It does not grab onto rocks, seeds, etc and is easy to clean.

Final thoughts

Love the low heeled look of the HNW, but wished it were scaled better and offered or accommodated high arch support.
