I've used these boots for work, for work on on my car, working outside, and going to concerts whether they be indoors or outdoors in the rain and mud. These boots handle everything like a champ.
The black crazy horse leather here really doesn't change much over time apparently (should've realized that much sooner to say the least). Of course it loosens up over time easily, and it will scuff up with any amount of hard wear, but any such scuffing disappears with even the slightest amount of conditioning. I don't do any extensive care for my boots, though I really should do it more often than I currently do, but they certainly hold up to what neglect I've put them through so far. The laborious break in of these boots likely has more to do with the leather lasting board, leather midsole, and massive sole than it does with the upper leather. The upper leather was thoroughly broken in before the sole wanted to even consider cooperating with me, but it came around eventually.
I may have picked a half-size too small for this one. Usually people say that these run true-to-size and are roomy, but I definitely don't get the impression of them being roomy; I had to remove the insoles that came with them so I could get better fit; though I added a different set of thin insoles afterwards. My right foot is a bit more cramped than my left, but eventually it breaks in and feels just fine all around. Frankly, I'm not surprised that this is the case because while I've always been under the impression that I an 8D, my (many) foot measurements returned as 8.5D; Jim Green does say that the boots will feel like a half size up with the insoles removed, so my next pair of Jim Greens will likely be an 8.5D.
The construction and design of these boots are wonderful, and I have no objections.
It's been far too little time to tell of their durability, but I expect at another 5 years from them as with my previous pair of boots. The traction leaves a little bit more to be desired; though, that may just be because of my dusty work conditions. The comfort is wonderful, and the EVA midsole handles concrete floors all day everyday like a champ. The spacious design of the lugs on the sole is also really helpful if you're prone to stepping all over pebble sized objects like coffee beans all day.
You really can't go wrong with these boots; they do everything you ask of them and beg for more. This particular leather even cleans up so nicely that you could probably wear it to a formal event if not for the fact that it's on a chunky boot!
