More about this item

This is sort of my grail boot. As a larger size, I think 7” really balances the proportions and gives that perfect look a 6” boot gives on smaller sizes. This has come after two other pairs of MTO boots and I finally think I’ve dialed it in. White’s 55 is the perfect last for my foot in a 12D.

Why I own this

Outdoor Activities

I love White’s and I’ve been wanting a natural grain leather. 55, 12D fits me like a golden slipper. These boots started as buying a pair of Maryam Muschio Stockman’s on sale but they had some oddities with the counter. So, I got to make these Farmer/Rancher MTOs for an exchange!

I did everything in these. Hiking, traveling, working around the house, office wear, wore them with a suit, and walking on the beach. I was so pleased at how versatile they were. I wore them everyday from October 1st onward. They were my companions and held up so well. It is going to be weird to wear other footwear going forward. They’ve been in Colorado and Norway snow, India heat, sand in Yantai, China, and much more. They’ve been on multiple international trips (one that went around the world) and plenty of other travel in between. After break-in, these were so dang comfy and easy to throw on my feet day after day.

Color Change

I love double shot. I was between natural CXL and this leather and ultimately chose this based on the initial color and the fact that it’s a little more tan at the start. The color change is amazing and is now this wonderful light brown. Love how the tan still bursts out of the heel counters. If you’re looking for scuffs and scratches to show, DS isn’t the way to go. Everything brushes out. I did just about no buffing. It was somewhat a thirsty leather once it became snow season in CO. I tried multiple different products on it but liked how it looks with Saphir neutral cream best. It brings out slight red tones in the leather and creates a wonderful shine. I wore these from -10 F to over 100 F. They do well enough in the cold and breath ability is great in the heat. DS is awesome to break in and creates more rolls like a horse leather before ultimately creasing in heavy bend areas. Lover natural double shot, and honestly wouldn’t mind a pair without so much wear so I could keep that wicked bright tan!

Satisfied with the Fit

55 is my golden slipper last. Wanting to try a White’s MP or other last, but nervous too mess with a perfect fit. 12D can be a little small with mid to heavy weight socks but fits perfect with a normal boot sock. Heel also is nice and snug. Arch is perfect without being too aggressive. Also, really loved no celastic toe bug. It formed better to my foot and in the end didn’t dimple in too much which I like. An interesting thing I’ve noticed between the cruiser and the MP heel counter is I find the extended length of the cruiser counter to add more comfort. It cradles your heel more and really locks it in. I like the look of the MP but the feel of the cruiser.

Design

I’m crazy about the versatility of the cruiser design. A great hiker, walker, worker, and can dress it up. I really liked the single row stitchdown to the hand welt and am CRAZY about White’s hand-sewn stitchdown. I was at times wishing I had a medallion toe cap, smaller eyelets, and a dogger heel style so I could dress it up more and wouldn’t lose any functionality. Ultimately, this boot was designed in a way that I could do anything in it and I love that about it. They’ll likely now turn into a hiker and casual boot and I might look to get a V100 on them one day. The only finishing flaw they really had was the stitchdown had a slight cut in it on the inside of the left boot. It didn’t go all the way to the stitching or hand welt so it was fine, just was always nervous it would tear more. These held up against harsh elements and hard hikes. Still have a lifetime left to go in them.

Great sole for lots of purposes. Sometimes didn’t have enough grips on hikes, but look great going into the office.

Love the Quabaug and logger style. Felt I might want to try a dogger on these but I think that’ll be my next boot.

Final thoughts

Would Recommend

Not sure what else I could say. It’s hard to be a boot that is just as good at hiking a mountain as it is wearing with a suit to the office. This design and build is so timeless and capable that it was able to be my everything boot for six months. My favorite aspects were the comfort and the journey of the natural double shot in both color and creasing. 7” is my favorite height and balances the look of larger sizes (I’m a 12D). Also loved taking the jump into no celastic toe bug; I feel like that added an extra element into the comfort. I’m a White’s fanboy and these only solidified that. Great job White’s! Go grab a Farmer/Rancher, Cruiser, MP, or anything else, and spend up for that hand-sewn stitchdown. You will not be disappointed!!
