Nicks nailed it! These feel just like Jungle Boots. Worn them all day (2nd time in) and they feel like the first day in a pair of Jungles. Which is I think why they were almost universally loved in the Army. There is certainly break in, but it is way easier than boots with leather upper quarters. The free movement of the ankle takes out the usual Frankenstein boot problems early to most break ins. And that same free ankle movement seems to allow the foot to start pushing on the vamp and soles.
Even better actually. No pinching at the leather gusset like the coduras. Cotton canvas is firm and supporting, but soft as an old pair of jean. The comfort under foot of the old Jungles, between the spike resistant steel plate and those super hard Panama Soles, just isn't in the same league with the leather mid-sole and honey lugs of the Upperducker.
Oh and I always liked the Army's Munson last. I thought they were great. But the Thurman last is even better.
Great job Nicks Team!
