Wolverine 1000 Mile Cap-Toe Boot

Horween Brown Chromexcel
12xubywire

Definitely mid. Firmly planted in the goldilocks zone of gyw boots.

I’d change a few things about the build, but I’m pretty happy with them. These really are the goldilocks of gyw boots. Proudly mid.

More about this item

This was my first dome and it was really fun. I really enjoyed the community and checking out other people’s progress. At times I wanted to wear different pairs from my collection, but I commited to completing this and giving it all I had. I wanna say almost all of us have owned a pair of 1000 miles, they’re ubiquitous, nothing fancy, but I think they punch above their weight class. I did waxed flesh semi dress for most of last winter and they held up well so I thought I’d test CXL in our elements. The leather soles on my other 1000 miles kept me from wearing them in the winter, so grabbing a pair with a vibram sole made sense for this cxl experiment. I chose these boots to dome because of the leather. The 5th place Nicks from last year inspired me. I actually reached out to Varnu for some insight on how cxl progressed for him and his advice seemed to hold true, things really started to pop in March. I’m on the east coast of Canada, so these got hit with salt, snow, ice and more salt. I’m in total disbelief how well cxl held up against the weather here…mind you the crusty ice really took a toll on the cap toes. I got a little over 860km on these this winter and they were amazingly comfortable. The softer rubber sole and the midsole really made these a joy to wear. I doubt I could have gone another day on the top lifts and will be replacing them thins week. The cxl lottery is very real. One boot is probably some of the best clicking I’ve seen on cxl in this price range, the other vamp has loads of creasing, just adds to the character. I didn’t do much to this other than pop on some viberg laces on day two and clean and brush every night. It felt like I was brushing my progress away every day, but by the end, the brown started to really to lighten up. Cxl is almost too robust to dome. The degree of difficulty to get any patina is quite high, it’s meant for longevity, not quickly aging in 6 months. I don’t expect to place, I’m just glad I completed this marathon.

Why I own this

Style

The 5th place nicks from last year worn by Varnu inspired me to try cxl in a Canadian winter. The style is a bit chunky, a bit like a cross between a Beckmann, Iron Ranger and a regular 1000 mile.

How I sized

Other

I own other 1000 miles and find they fit well. These are a bit roomier in the toe box than the non cap toe versions.

Ordering process

Purchased from WolverineTotal cost: 300 CAD

A bit of a hassle. Wolverine stopped selling these in Canada, so I had to have them shipped to a freight forwarder company in the US who then sent them to Canada.
