Clinch Milne Soft-Toe (Top Notch Horsehide) by Brass Tokyo – 6-Month Aging Review This Clinch Milne is, to my knowledge, the only example in this exact configuration and size in the world. I still can’t believe my luck in tracking down the original purchaser and acquiring these boots brand new—he had only tried them on once and never worn them. It feels almost unreal to have the chance to not only wear such a rare piece, but to showcase how beautifully it ages. Crafted from supple Top Notch horsehide in a soft-toe build, the Milne stands out for its beautifully curvaceous silhouette—one of the most striking boot profiles I’ve seen. The horsehide was chosen over Brass Tokyo’s signature horsebutt because the boot was designed for a close, glove-like fit that molds comfortably to the foot. Since horsehide and horsebutt share a similar tight grain structure, the toe box has still developed the beautiful rolls and toe collapse that Clinch boots are known for. It began as solid black, but after six months of near-daily wear, a rich, warm brown undertone has emerged through the patina, along with lovely rolls. Living in the Pacific Northwest, I wore these as daily companions: casual walks, light hikes, and plenty of time spent moving around the house or resting in a low squat while working from home. Nothing extreme—just real, consistent use in damp, variable conditions. I brushed them after every wear and kept them conditioned. The boots have formed to my feet beautifully and have aged gracefully, developing character and depth while remaining supremely comfortable and handsome. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed them every step of the way.
