This wallet has been with me through everything during the thunderdome and has been bombproof. Logging landings, sagebrush and granite, falling in a trout hatchery, 90 degree march days, hikes, photo shoots across California, and lots of days sitting in an office have all made their mark.
The natural shell started out relatively flat and I was sure that the Horween Shell Cordovan mythology was hype. After the first month there was practically no change to the leather- creasing, wrinkling, dulling, or anything- the smell hadn’t even changed. That’s when I started to suspect that I had something different than normal leather on my hands. I did not have to do any conditioning other than occasional brushing and the leather got more gorgeous and the natural figuring got more dramatic with wear. I started to get impromptu compliments from strangers around month 4 and around that time became a complete Cordovan convert and evangelist-I think it will be 12 months before I will even need to consider conditioning. If you look at the wear I put on the dome boots and the state they are in that is really saying something- this wallet held up to everything I threw at both of those pairs and is completely unfazed
Prior to this I was exclusively a minimalist wallet guy and the Fat Herbie has completely changed my perspective on wallets- it’s a really fantastic design. I have never been a fine leather goods guy- always purchased practical, durable, honest workmanship (aka relatively cheap) so this is my first experience with something in this price range- it’s really impressive.
Shell Cordovan really is everything it’s cracked up to be and I really fell in love with this wallet!
