I chose Drew’s boots partially because my name is Andrew and also because I got them on sale. A boot of similar construction from whites would’ve set me back a lot more and I’m interested to see how Drew’s holds up to the original. I also think they’re especially good looking boots.

How did you determine your size?

Online Guide

I hoped for the best in getting as close a size to my white’s as was available and if they were too small or too big I’d wear them anyways.

I selected the boot I wanted and ordered it and it came in great packaging and in good time. They even included a free matching set of kilties which I am very happy with.

With these Drew’s Contractors I did yard work on my father’s property in hot and dry southern AZ, clearing brush, cleaning the pool, and picking up land mines from the dogs. I wore them on a flight to Oregon where my dad and I loaded a U-Haul with my grandmothers things and helped her move to Arizona to be with family. Not long ago my pug fell in the pool and I dropped by the edge to pull him out and he is safe and sound, the toe caps got scuffed and lost their sheen but got it back after some brushing and buffing. My contractors look great going to the grocery store, walking in some snow, sitting on the bleachers at my little brother’s baseball games, or with my legs kicked out on the couch while I watch Star Wars. I like to wear these boots more casually than for outdoor work, though they are more than capable of putting in some hard miles.

Care Routine

Durability

This leather has gotten better and better after every wear, the uppers and footbed have molded to my legs and feet perfectly and are some of the most comfortable boots I own. They started out incredibly stiff and felt like I had casts on my feet but after a day or two I was feeling pretty good. I can tell these are insanely durable boots, but I treat them like some fragile artifact of a time forgotten so any time I go to put these bad boys on I grab my horsehair brush from red wing and a micro fiber cloth I can’t recall the origin of but works well and I brush every inch of these boots. I normally focus on getting a really nice shine on the toe by going back and forth with the brush and microfiber cloth till I’m satisfied with how well I can see the room around me. I generally go for a good gloss for the rest of the boot as they are usually hidden under my pants but I don’t neglect any part of the boot. When it’s time to put them back on the shelf I do the same routine again. I have yet to give these boots any conditioner and I don’t imagine they’ll need any for a while.

Satisfied with the Fit

I feel like the fit of these boots is great, my heel is locked in and my toes have ample room to fit, however the edges of the leather by the eyelets and hooks do come to contact but I think it’s because of my skinny ankles. I kind of like the way it looks with them cinched up but I’m not sure if it’s ideal. I really enjoy the way the arch support just clings to my foot I feel very stable wearing them anywhere.

Construction

These Drew’s are expertly crafted. All of the stitching looks tight and uniform, the hardware has held up excellently I haven’t had to bend a hook back into place and the kilties aren’t scratched up from the hardware backing. The leather selection is awesome, everything has the perfect hue, luster, and thickness. This tannage is very tough, ready for anything and takes a shine like nothing else. The interior liner has held up nicely and the sock liner has stayed well in place. Overall I think these boots are just about perfect regarding the quality of their construction.

Sole & heel

Traction

The sole has held up great, it hasn’t separated from the leather midsole at all and the dense rubber will offer solid traction for many more wears. I felt I could walk around just fine on gravel, sand, rocks, and pavement, but when I had a snow day I felt a little iffy about its grip. I stayed upright throughout by the dome so I’m happy.

The heel held up just as the sole did, its composed of a dense rubber that offers great grip right after first contact with the floor and feels incredibly stable.

Final thoughts

Good Value

These boots mean a great deal to me, I enjoy the process of ensuring they look great and in return I get to wear an incredibly comfortable and stylish pair of heritage footwear for many years to come. Being 19 years old I feel I’m starting my collection of quality goods well and I look forward to continuing with leveling up patina. Happy doming everyone.
