More about this item

My 1st Handmade Heritage boots ever 🥇 Sold to a former coworker. They went to a good new home

Why I own this

Ready To Wear
Style

I wanted to start the boot journey gently with my wallet. I chose Thursday because of the reputation, build quality, and price. I wanted a yellow-brown leather similar to baseball glove leather, like yellow straw or hay.

How I sized

Brannock Measurements
Online Guide

I measured myself on the Brannock device and followed Thursday's instructions referencing the Brannock. BootSpy, Carl Murawski, RoseAnvil, and Stridewise all influenced my sizing decision and I'm grateful for their help.

Ordering process

Online Store

It was easy to buy online and obtain. Thursday is very streamlined. I was disappointed that the boots did not look like the pictures online, though I don't expect them to be exact.

I mostly wore these at the office, around town, and chasing my kids at the playground. Spent quite some time picking sand out of the welt.

I really love the crocking that developed after Christmas. I bought some new jeans and I knew that I wanted to smear some indigo dye on the yellow-brown suede. I wanted to wax them sooner but I eventually got around to it, and not a moment too soon since the rainy season started the same day I finished waxing.

Satisfied with the Fit

This is definitely a lighter leather from my experience. It's great for my purposes since I don't wear them hard. They're flexible and the insoles are the most comfortable I've experienced so far. Currently still breaking in my first pair of Grant Stones and I'm not liking the foam patch under my heels, surprisingly. Thursday definitely made a great, straightforward boot with a decently roomy, slick last.

Finishing
Stitching

Here is where I'm disappointed. I understand that this is an entry-level Boot in terms of price, and maybe I chose a leather (suede) that's prone to high variations in color and texture. I wish there was consistency in the toe caps (see my first month's photos) and I wish the stitches didn't have fraying out of the box. Quality was subpar in my opinion.

Sole & heel

Traction

They work. Nothing to complain about. Not as slippery as the Vibram 430's in my experience.

Final thoughts

Good Value
Would Recommend

Great gateway boot, I want to buy my wife a pair of combats from them. I'm definitely moving into the mid-range of boots, so I most likely won't come back to Thursday unless I have a specific need only they can fill for cheap. Definitely won't get suede again, at least not for a long time. I am interested in their sneakers, so I'll probably look into those first before more Captains. Overall, my verdict is: good, not great. It's mostly a stepping stone to try GYW boots and either stop or dive deeper. I'm definitely plunging into handmade heritage boots, and I'm grateful for Thursday to be that first step.
