First time since the original dome that I’ve worn a single pair and I took these things with me to work every day doing everything from sitting at a desk to climbing into walls to fabricating gallery furniture for four exhibitions. They saw a decent bit of rain and snow during commutes. Walked all over the city. Went on a couple short hikes.
It broke in pretty well for a 5oz veg tan. It pretty much immediately burnishes and loses a lot of it rustic matte finish, but it actually looks really nice when worn in and maintains a bit of a velvety touch even when smoothed out a bit. The grey is barely able to be considered a grey from the start though, and it doesn’t take long for it to go from green grey, to green brown, to full on brown.
Was much too thin at 2oz to be used the way I did, and the embossing was gone pretty much instantly while also showing all the structure of the heel counter underneath. The color actually acted more how I expected though, and surprisingly stayed a bit more grey tan like I’d experienced with smooth Minerva that I’d used on jeans patches in the past, and really liked.
It’s made for my feet… so it’s a pretty good fit as long as I make them right.
This was a rush job. Just putting them together in the week before the dome, and definitely had a few things I didn’t love about them. Overall they held up very well, and I really can’t complain about much aside from the look of the heel counter and some rough stitching here and there. For what they are, they’re not bad, but I plan on doing better.
Not as much traction as I’d hoped for, but it was a pretty decent sole. Similar in feel to a V bar, but maybe a bit less stiff and a bit more traction.
Always like the feel and look of these, but I really tore through them. I’m almost all the way through a washer and a nail head on each heel.
The maker is super cool and I would recommend him as a dope person to know and stuff.
