More about this item

I bought these as a work boot as my first pair on the mandrill last really make my feet feel awesome. The maryam horsebutt is a bit heavier leather which will wear harder. I wanted something classic and yet different which is why i went with this particular style. My feet love their boots.

Why I own this

Style

I chose the monkey boots as they have a good feel on my odd shaped and different lengths of feet. I like a walking heel for work and solid feel for ankle support. Having ordered a pair of monkeys from the same maker previously, they had my shape and size dialed in. The first pair were in shinki horse black teacore, and I wanted a pair of them in horse leather again, but wanted something more robust and went with the maryam olive horsebutt on the makers suggestion. It is tough stuff and only in the last 6 weeks did it start to really age. Break in was about 4 weeks of daily wear.

No mods to the mandrill last. It has a shorter ball to toe ratio. This suits my 13D brannock very well.

These boots have TRAVELLED quite a few miles. As an ops manager, I log a lot of foot time on site, in the office and going in between on the motorcycle. Now that the weather has cooled off, its more truck time and less bike :-( but the snow to come will definitely change them again.

Patina Process

Oh this leather is tough stuff. Break in has finally begun in month two. They squeaked and creaked like crazy. The color is darker than when i saw the leather hide from the maker. Its takes every mark and bump, but its settling into a more even wear pattern as the glazing starts to fade and the boots become one with my feet.

Satisfied with the Fit

The mandrill last fits me very well. At a 13D sometimes you sacrifice style for sizing. Not so with these boots. I wear insoles due to some nerve damage in my soles, so Jakkrabbits accounted for this in the lasting process. The result is fantastic. They are stiff still and squeak less than they did out of the box. Super comfy and durable.

These soles are a bit chunky, but are comfy, supportive and quiet on a hard floor. Great traction for this lug sole.

The maker just does everything right and to measure. Give them every bit of info possible and you will not be disappointed.
