My first real foray into wearing a wedge, and I am a convert for the comfort on concrete.

More about this item

Pssh!, don't tell anyone these don't have a safety toe; might be my boots for the test track this year. In all seriousness, these will be my second/alternate Dome pair this year, to try and avoid getting burned out by feeling i can only wear one pair of boots all winter long.

Why I own this

Ready To Wear
Style
Workplace Needs
Outdoor Activities

I personally really like the esthetic of field boots, so when Grant Stone came out with a makeup, i was instantly interested. I need dedicated work boots, but I don't have any steel toe, ESD, or fire requirements for most normal day to day. I have specialty ppe for those specific days. I work mostly on concrete or on the loose sand/dirt of test ranges, so the wedge sole is the way to go. Except for having to dig "goat heads" out, which you have to do with any sole, the Wedge was extremely comfortable. I do try to spend as much time as possible outside in nature, and while I would not do section hikes in these (due to overall weight), working around the campsite, these are right at home.

How I sized

Online Guide
Other

I had a pair of brass boots on the Floyd last from Grant Stone previously. Given that it is the same last used in the field boot, I knew the size I needed. Also, Grant Stone's online guidance is straightforward.

Online Store

I placed an order on Grant Stone's website, and a few days later, the boots arrived at my house without issue.

Use & wear

Outdoor Activities
Office Work
Physical Work

I wore these for work and the occasional outdoors camping trip. For work, that meant mostly on concrete or the sand/dirt of different test ranges. Since i am the engineer on the projects, my work is not as physical as it used to be. For context, I work on things that "go really fast and usually boom at the end". Although, I did try to suggest tying them to our test manikins' feet, and I would have claimed the "fastest pair of boots in the thunderdome"! Unfortunately, the higher-ups didn't go for it.

Leather

Break-In
Care Routine
Durability

I would say there is no break-in with this leather, and it rolls with the punches. I purposely selected this leather so there would not be much upkeep. I would brush/wipe them off when really dirty. The waxy commander may be suede and not the typical super thick full grain work leather, but as long as not purposely abused, it is hard wearing enough for most jobs.

Fit

Satisfied with the Fit

I am happy with the overall fit and comfort of the boots.

Craftsmanship

Grant Stone Field Boot

There is a reason that most folks have come to acknowledge that it is tough to beat the value and quality you get from Grant Stone. The pair of boots was exactly what I paid for with no quality control issues. I personally can't ask for anything more than that.

Sole & heel

Durability
Comfort

The sole has been extremely comfortable and for my type of work, more than durable enough. I still have plenty of life in my soles currently. I can tell these will need a replacement sooner than if I had a rubber lug, but the comfort is worth the necessity of a quicker resole.

Final thoughts

Good Value
Would Recommend

I know there are folks that couldn't get away working in boots like this, but for my needs, they met every obstacle and came out still looking good. G Stone is tough to be on value, and I would recommend the field boot over the brass boots I have them as well.
