More about this item

The Roper Boot No.10 is handmade in Texas by Rios Of Mercedes. They are one of only a few boot makers that still produces boots using "Channelled Insole Goodyear Welt Construction", an artisanal construction process that extends the longevity, improves comfort and allows you to recraft the boot for generations. The Roper No.10 is an exclusive design built on the classic “Roper” boot, a crossover between a “Western” and a “Dress" boot. Made with a shorter shaft, a cleaner silhouette and a lower heel, the Roper offers supreme comfort and classic styling. The shorter 10" shaft and traditional last, creates a fit that is looser through the heel to allow for comfort and flexibility. Each boot is hand-lasted and reinforced with a steel shank and that is secured with wooden pegs. The fully stacked leather heels (1' tall) are finished with a rubber heel tap for longevity. They are leather lined, built without any insole fillers and finished with a premium, lightweight & durable Vibram® brand sole. HORWEEN® WAXED-FLESH HORSEHIDE (CHICAGO Brown) This version is made entirely from a unique and very exclusive Horween® Chromexcel® Horsehide in their "waxed-flesh" finish. Much like a rough-out leather, Horween® takes the flesh side but then applies waxes and oils to seal the flesh just a bit. Over time the waxes will break down and the leather will develop a unique worn patina. At 3-4oz., the hides are lighter weight than our steerhide and bison leather but durable and resilient like horsehide is known to be. Another distinct feature of this leather is the grain side, which is a lighter contrasting shade and with a sleek and rich finish.

The Vibram 700 sole allows me to wear these in wet conditions without ruining a leather bottom. Even with a rubber sole, you can feel everything on the ground. They feel so good, I could run very easily in these:

Break-In

Holy Christ All Mighty, has a very tight collar and is rediculously tough to get your foot in without help. Thought I was going to rip the boot pull tabs off. Conditioning the collar not helpful yet: Sweating my ass off for 5 minutes each boot just to get my foot in, and have all the cheats like shoe horns, and plastic bags. Can NOT travel through the airport until I get these bastards broken in.

Final thoughts

Would Recommend

Never thought I would buy an $800 pair of boots that were not exotic leather, but wowzer, these things are top notch.
