More about this item

These are a special pair of boots. I received the around the end of Patinathunderdome 4 and considered saving them until Patianthunderdome 5, but I wore them all Summer instead. I have a new pair of Role Clubs I’m entering as well, but these boots are amazing and need to documented in some way even if they’ve already made significant transformation. Also, I’m going to keep wearing them a lot since they are so comfortable. The sizing is really perfect for me. The backstay is a special leather from a show factory where my grandmother worked in the 1970’s. Is new deadstock brown bison leather overdyed black for this pair. The leather was too old to make more substantial or flexible then the backstays.

Use & wear

I wore these at work mostly for extra long shifts. They were preworn of course and had a lot more evolution left. I work at a hospital and put a lot of miles on boots but not much hard use or abrasion.

Color Change

This leather is really beautiful. Such a nice sheen and the overdye coming off shows the burgundy through. So fun to watch these evolve and they still have a ways to go I think.

Satisfied with the Fit

These are my best fitting pair of boots. If I’m walking long distances, I can wear these all day. The arch, volume, and toe box are so perfect for my foot. The arch support is surprisingly good with the vamp wrapping under for support. These are custom sized because of my low volume low instep foot with a high arch.

Stitching

There were some small flaws, but the overall product is well designed and sturdy. The last shape and construction are perfect. Stitching is not 100% straight, and the soles had some hammer marks, but I DO NOT care one bit. These are so perfect for me in every way. I’ve worn these almost a year straight now with minimal care and no issues.

Sole & heel

Durability

Leather sole no midsole means comfort and light weight. The look is so cool as well. I was a bit worried about durability, but it will still be several years before a resole.

Traction
Durability

Very durable and good traction. Something to help since the outsole is leather. Solid choice as always.

Final thoughts

Would Recommend

I want another pair. They just closed their books, but I’m planning to get another pair someday. The style and evolution of these boots is so spot on for me, that I don’t think I will ever buy another engineer.
