Unsung House
U 22-2 Engineer Boot
Standard & Strange
I loved the look of the leather and that it was different from just the standard natural leather. It has character and I like that. I also wanted to try a boot from unsung house and they did not disappoint.
Payed the pre order price and when the boots were ready to ship I paid the remaining balance. It was simple and easy.
Worn solely for the entirety of the Dome. Worn them on top of mountains, hiking trails, construction sites, to the office, on errands, really anytime I’m outside these are on foot! Worn to go install some Starlink devices for the US Forest Service. Usually they are on top of mountains or on the base of the mountain.
Unreal character on this leather. I can see why they chose to name them the “Desert Fever’s”. The patina on this leather is super unique, especially on the toe. Because of how the leather is textured, some spots patina/darken more than other spots leading to a “desert” feel. (Which I love.) The leather is very durable. Some days I work 10hrs+ and I’ve been wearing them almost everyday doing physical work and the leather is holding up very well. There are some cuts and scuffs, but overall I feel pretty protected wearing them. I didn’t have a break-in period. They were out of the box comfortable and had no issues. For the most part my care routine is very minimal. Out of the box I applied some leather preservative on the welt. Other than that it’s been just brushing with a horsehair brush. Every now and then I would clean the welt and add more preservative if I wore them in water/snow.
The design is phenomenal. I’ve never worn a more comfortable boot that fits this well. Almost feels bespoke that’s how good they fit. I own a few engineers and none of them come close to having less heel slip. These have so minimal heel slip, wearing my other engineers feel like flip flops in comparison 😂. The shaft is also designed better. It’s more comfortable and fits into slimmer jeans without it looking weird. Construction of the boot is great and well done. High SPI throughout the boot is excellent. The most prominent issue is the sole. I’d like to see some brass nails on the sole, especially for the price, to prevent it from peeling up like mine have. Other than that, it’s beautifully well made.
