I was looking for a pair of black engineers and then I saw that Unsung was doing a pre-order. I know their work well and have always loved the look of the U22-2, so I ordered and waited. I wear these for everything, more or less, daily wear, working, etc.
Grant (Unsung) sent me a detailed and comprehensive guide to taking my measurements, so I followed those as closely as I could. They confirmed the sizing after I sent them the measurements and tracings.
Fantastic! Clear communication from day one helped immensely. I’d do it again in a heartbeat.
“Just put them on and forget about it” has been my motto with these boots for the last 6 months. Rain, mud, dry, wet, hot, cold, whatever — these will do it all and feel great on your feet while you do it. They are surprisingly easy to wear with almost everything — a real testament to the design and craftsmanship of the folks at Unsung.
I love Maryam toscanello, and was looking for a black engineer, so when this leather was an option, I didn’t hesitate. Although I didn’t know what to expect with the overdye, it turned out great. Wipe, brush, repeat. Nothing fancy in terms of care. The break in was amazing — something about this leather and the way it slowly softens is just incredible.
One of my favorite lasts now, the PBD is comfortable right away. The arch support is great, the toebox is just roomy enough. The shape of the sole might throw you, but once you try it, you’ll wish you had more of these in your rotation. Instep feels snug but not tight, shaft accommodates many cuts of pants, great profile — classic but unique.
What can you say other than “wow”? They were almost too gorgeous to wear at first, but I got over that and think they somehow look even better now. No problems whatsoever with these boots at any point. Grant did say that they’d be happy to address any problems at any point but damn if they aren’t tough as nails. Finishing is 100 out of 10 — you can tell that these are hand made and no detail is overlooked.
I’ve had neocork before (Alden), so I knew what to expect. Surprisingly good traction and durability for a smooth outsole. Comfortable, cushioning, but able to handle almost anything.
No complaints — looks great, didn’t wear too quickly, and provides a great profile.
I’ve been looking for a black engineer for a while and was excited to be able to order a pair of these. They are the coolest boots I have. Unsung is amazing for lots of reasons, but I really appreciate how genuinely nice and helpful they are. From ordering to sizing to constructing to delivery, communication was great at every step. I live the way they feel, the way they look, and they just feel like they were made for me. If you’re lucky enough to have a pair of these, you’re lucky enough indeed. I’d order another pair in a second — in fact, I’m going to and dream of another pair right now.
