These Hobo Moc Toes have been worn almost every day since I received them in November of 2025. They have been worn in a wet and cold autumn, a freezing winter, and now a sunny spring. I wear them for long city walks, at work while at the office, for festivities with a more relaxed dress code.
Having not used shoe trees for the first five months, they have developed deeper creases which I think looks so cool on these shoes. Since one month ago though, I have started to use shoe trees while not wearing them. The leather was quite soft from first wear, and the break in was pretty quick. I have conditioned them three times since I bought them, and the first two times I cleaned them off with saddle soap, and conditioned with Cheq Brill Essentielle Cream. Last time they were conditioned I used saddle soap and Saphir Renovateur (Macadamia Oil version)
The fit is perfect for my foot, with a slightly wider toe box. I sized up to size 40 from my size 39 Red Wing 875 Moc Toe. They feature a 4mm leather insole, with an additional removable EVA foam insole with lining leather. This is paired with a 3.5mm leather midsole, cork filling, and a Vibram Cristy Wedge Sole. The toe and heel stiffener, while being made of Celastic, feel sturdy and firm on my feet. The welt looks to me like a split leather welt. The original laces were very slim and lacked friction, which made knots come undone easily. I was quick to replace those with leather ones instead. One thing that I need to figure out about them is how I can keep the white moc toe stitch white after conditioning. It will be very white after being cleaned off with saddle soap, but after conditioning the stitch will look gray and dirty.
