History
Andrew Chen and Johan Lam founded 3sixteen as a graphic t-shirt label. The company later expanded its offering to a full menswear line. In 2008, 3sixteen introduced its first selvedge jeans, known as the SL-100x, through a partnership with Kuroki Mills in Okayama, Japan.
Manufacturing
3sixteen denim uses custom-woven fabrics sourced from Kuroki Mills in Japan. The brand’s jeans are cut and sewn in San Francisco. The company produces its denim in the United States and has stated a preference for domestic manufacturing.
Construction and materials
3sixteen denim typically features 14.5-ounce selvedge fabric. Some collaborations, including those with Alpha Industries, have used materials such as indigo-dyed herringbone fabric. The company’s garments are designed to develop visual changes with wear.
