Anastazi is a Western Australian footwear workshop specializing in handmade leather boots and shoes. Founded in 1974 by three Greek individuals (a father and two sons), the business has been producing custom footwear in Western Australia for over 40 years. The workshop is known for elastic-sided boots made from one-piece prime calf leather uppers and offers custom services including dressage riding boots and leggings.
The business operates on a made-to-order basis, with Kosta, the eldest son of the founding family, continuing production into his mid-70s. For over four decades, Anastazi supplied boots exclusively to Bodkins Bootery in Fremantle, a retail partnership that ended when Robert Bodkin retired and closed the store in 2022.
In 1974, a Greek father and his two sons opened a handmade footwear workshop in Western Australia and approached Bodkins Bootery to retail their products. This partnership continued for more than 40 years, with Anastazi shoes supplying the Fremantle store with handcrafted leather footwear throughout this period.
Kosta, the eldest son, now in his mid-70s, continues making Anastazi boots. He has downsized operations to working from home and the back room of the former Bodkins Bootery location. The business also operates from a location at 9 Padbury Terrace, Midland, Western Australia, 6056.
Anastazi produces several boot styles, with elastic-sided boots being the most favored design. The boots are constructed from 100% leather, featuring uppers made from a single piece of prime calf leather. This one-piece upper construction is a distinctive characteristic of the elastic-sided boot line.
The workshop uses various materials across its product range. Some boots feature kangaroo leather, which possesses high tensile strength. The Gardner boot is constructed from 2.5mm Australian bull hide and is designed for both work and casual wear. The product line includes short elastic boots in three different styles, with options for multiple colors, various leather types, and either rubber or leather soles. All styles are available in full and half sizes using generous UK sizing.
Anastazi offers custom-made dressage riding boots and leggings, along with wide-fitting or extra-large custom-made fashion shoes and boots. The workshop also produces classic and vintage lace boots, brogue shoes, and jodhpur-style boots.
As of the mid-2010s, Anastazi products ranged from $398 to $695. The Gardner boot was priced at $398, while the Zapatu brown boot cost $555 and the Cowboy Block Digger boot was $695. Custom orders requiring specific colors or sizes not in stock typically required approximately two weeks for production.
From 1974 until 2022, Bodkins Bootery at 72 High Street, Fremantle, served as the exclusive retail location for Anastazi footwear. The store, housed in the historic Pearce Bros Building constructed in the late 1800s, operated under the Bodkins name from 1969. Owner Robert Bodkin, who retired in 2022, described Anastazi Boots as superior to mass-produced alternatives, specifically noting quality comparisons with offshore-manufactured boots. When Bodkins Bootery closed following Bodkin's retirement, the long-standing retail partnership ended.
