The Double Monk Strap 1645 is a women's double monk strap shoe manufactured by Carmina Shoemaker. The model features Goodyear welt construction and is built on the Madison last, which Carmina describes as "the queen of our lasts for women" and represents the company's bestselling women's last. Handcrafted in Mallorca, Spain, the 1645 is available in Italian vitello calf leather in multiple colors and in snuff suede.
The 1645 employs Goodyear welt construction, a method developed in 1869 that allows the shoe to be resoled multiple times throughout its lifespan. The upper is constructed from Italian vitello calf leather, a thin but durable material available in red, brown, black, chestnut, and navy. A snuff suede version is also offered. The shoe features brass buckles with a nickel cover finish and a full kid leather lining.
Most versions include an Alfil rubber sole, while the suede variant features a Silver rubber sole designed to provide additional traction. Each pair is handmade by craftsmen at Carmina's Mallorca facilities, with production involving up to 100 artisans across the company's two factories.
The Madison last, on which the 1645 is constructed, features a 20mm heel height and a rounded tip design. The last provides a spacious fit in both the toe area and instep, making it versatile for both elegant and semi-sport shoe models. According to Carmina, the Madison last was the first last the company developed specifically for women's Goodyear welted footwear and continues as their bestselling women's last design.
