The Plain Toe Blucher Shoes 531 is a dress shoe model manufactured by Carmina Shoemaker. The 531 features a five-eyelet plain toe blucher design and is available in multiple leather options including shell cordovan, suede, and various calf leathers. The model is offered on different lasts to accommodate varying foot shapes and preferences.
Carmina produces the 531 using traditional Goodyear welt construction in their factory in Inca, Mallorca. The shoe is available on both the Oscar and Detroit lasts, with each last providing distinct fitting characteristics suited to different wear preferences.
The 531 features a five-eyelet plain toe blucher design with refined Goodyear welt construction following techniques developed by Charles Goodyear in 1869. The shoe is finished with full calf lining throughout the interior.
The 531 is manufactured in multiple leather options. Available materials include Armagnac shell cordovan from Horween, brown waxy Commander leather, brown suede, brown calf, and brown grain leather.
Sole construction varies by leather selection. Cordovan versions feature a storm-welted Rendenbach sole, while waxy Commander versions include a commando sole. Suede iterations use a silver rubber sole, and grain leather versions feature a storm-welted double silver sole.
The 531 is available on two primary lasts: the Oscar last and the Detroit last. The Oscar last features a round tip, low instep, and standard fitting with increased width at the toe area. This last pairs well with casual models incorporating traditional design elements and works effectively with thick leather and rubber soles. The Oscar last is particularly well-suited for shell cordovan construction.
The Detroit last represents an American-inspired design with a slightly squared toe and roomier dimensions in both the instep and toe areas. This last was one of the first created by the manufacturer.
All 531 production takes place at Carmina's facility in Inca, Mallorca. The manufacturing process spans 15 to 20 days and includes 11 defined stages: preparation of the last, design, pattern making, material selection, cutting, sewing, assembly, stitching of welting, and additional finishing processes. Production relies on manual craftsmanship with artisans employing traditional Goodyear welt construction methods.
The Carmina family has manufactured shoes on Mallorca since 1866, when MatÃas Pujadas opened a workshop in Inca, Majorca. Mateo Pujadas later established one of the first Goodyear-stitched shoe factories in the Balearic Islands. José Albadalejo Pujadas created the Carmina Albaladejo Shoemaker brand in 1997. Inca has maintained recognition as a center for the leather industry and quality footwear production.
