Caramel Regency Calf is a color variant of Regency Calf leather produced by Charles F. Stead tannery. The leather combines the warm caramel tone with Regency Calf's characteristic hand-antiquing and natural wax finish, creating a smooth grain surface with rich color depth.
Like all Regency Calf variants, the caramel colorway features full aniline dyeing and deep pull-up characteristics, allowing the leather to develop distinctive patina through wear while maintaining the refined, warm brown tones.
Caramel Regency Calf is made from selected premium French calf skins following the same production standards as other Regency Calf colors. The leather weighs 3.5 to 4.5 ounces (1.4 to 1.8 millimeters) and is supplied in hides ranging from 16 to 18 square feet.
The leather undergoes heavy plating during production to create the smooth grain aspect characteristic of Regency Calf. The caramel color is achieved through full aniline dyeing, where the dye penetrates throughout the hide without surface pigmentation.
Charles F. Stead finishes the caramel variant through hand-antiquing, creating color variation across the leather surface. The antiquing process is followed by application of a natural wax finish that penetrates the leather structure.
The full aniline dyeing allows the natural grain pattern to remain visible and contributes to the leather's pull-up effect, where flexed areas temporarily lighten in color. The finishing includes a vintaged effect applied during the tanning stage, producing irregular color variations that blend as the leather ages.
Caramel Regency Calf is used for footwear and leather goods where warm-toned smooth grain leather with aging characteristics is desired. The leather's weight and thickness make it suitable for boot uppers and structured leather goods.
Heritage footwear manufacturers including Viberg have used the caramel colorway for slides and other footwear styles where refined grain leather with rich brown tones is specified.
