The Thunderstruck 10" Logger is a waterproof insulated work boot manufactured by Chippewa since 2022. The boot features premium full-grain leather construction with Goodyear welt assembly, designed for logging, construction, and other demanding work environments. The Thunderstruck Logger combines traditional logger boot design elements with modern safety features and insulation technology.
The boot was first available on September 9, 2022, and was featured as Chippewa's Boot of the Month in August 2024. According to Emma Benson, Marketing Manager at Chippewa Boots, "The Thunderstruck Logger is a prime example of what Chippewa is known for: timeless utility, advanced protection, and craftsmanship built to last. It's a modern boot inspired by traditional logging footwear, elevated with cutting-edge safety and performance features."
The Thunderstruck 10" Logger has a 10-inch shaft height with a round toe shape and lace-up closure. The boot uses Goodyear leather welt construction, a method where the upper part of the boot attaches to the sole through a leather welt. This construction technique is historically considered the gold standard for quality shoemaking and provides moisture-resistance, extreme durability, and ease of repair. The welted construction allows the boots to be resoled when the outsole wears down, extending their useful life.
The boot incorporates a one-inch triple ribbed steel shank that provides arch support and stability. The logging heel design helps prevent the boot from slipping backward on inclines and provides additional leverage when climbing.
The upper is constructed from premium waterproof full-grain cowhide leather. Full-grain leather retains the natural grain pattern of the hide and is known for developing a patina with wear while maintaining structural integrity.
The outsole combines a Vibram Thunderstruck TC4 Plus design with a co-molded urethane midsole. The oil- and slip-resisting Vibram TC4 Plus rubber features a rugged, multi-directional tread pattern designed to flex and grip on multiple surfaces including wet, oily, or uneven terrain. Vibram soles are recognized in the footwear industry for their durability and traction characteristics.
The Thunderstruck 10" Logger is available in both soft toe (model TH1032) and nano composite toe (model TH1031) configurations. The nano composite toe provides impact protection while remaining lightweight compared to traditional steel toe caps. Both versions meet ASTM F2413 Safety Footwear Standards.
The boot is electrical hazard rated to protect the wearer from open electrical currents from the ground up. This rating indicates the boot provides insulation between the foot and electrically conductive surfaces.
The boot includes Dri-Lex plus 400g 3M Thinsulate lining throughout. Thinsulate is a lightweight synthetic insulation that traps body heat while allowing moisture vapor to escape, providing warmth without excessive bulk. The 400-gram weight specification indicates the amount of insulation per square meter of material.
The Thunderstruck Logger features a removable Ortholite insert made of open-cell polyurethane foam. Ortholite foam is breathable, lightweight, and flexible while retaining 95 percent of its original thickness over time. The Ortholite Triple Density insole delivers cushioning and reduces foot fatigue during extended wear periods.
Chippewa advises that their boots typically run approximately half a size larger than standard shoe sizing. For the Thunderstruck Logger with insulation and available safety toe options, this extra space may accommodate the additional internal volume required for toe protection and insulation. Sizing recommendations suggest considering ordering a half size down from regular shoe size, or maintaining normal size for a roomier fit that accommodates thick socks.
The Thunderstruck model line is part of Chippewa's collection of boots designed to meet the demands of professionals in physically demanding occupations. The Thunderstruck Logger embodies the company's approach to combining authentic craftsmanship with modern safety and performance features. The boot's design draws inspiration from traditional logging footwear while incorporating contemporary materials and safety standards.
The boot was highlighted as Chippewa's Boot of the Month in August 2024, approximately two years after its initial release. As of 2024, the Thunderstruck 10" Logger is priced at $309.95.
