Chisos Boot Company

Chisos Boot Company began operations in 2019, established by Will Roman of Austin, Texas. Roman learned bootmaking by spending several months in León, Mexico, where he worked with local artisans to study the craft and production methods used in the region.

Chisos boots are made in a family-operated workshop located in Guanajuato, Mexico. The workshop manages every step of the manufacturing process, including channel welting, hand-lasting, heel shaping, and final finishing of the boots. Compensation for apprentices at the workshop is documented as more than double the regional living wage, and all employees receive state pension contributions and healthcare benefits.

Chisos uses full-grain leather that is sourced from retired dairy cattle in its boots. The company applies hand-lasting techniques and forms the channel welt directly in the leather insoles, a choice that omits canvas gemming. The outsoles consist of 10-11 iron center-cut leather, and the heel counters are built with thick leather components.

Chisos Boot Company produces cowboy boots for men and women. Some boot designs integrate visual features that reference regional motifs, such as the Chisos Mountains or local petroglyphs. In 2020, Chisos launched the Reserve collection, which included boots made with wild Texas alligator leather.
