About

The Light Revival is a hiking boot variant manufactured by Danner as a faithful homage to the original Danner Light design from 1979. Released in 2019 to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the Danner Light, the Light Revival recreates the patterns and materials used in the first boot to incorporate a GORE-TEX waterproof liner. The boot is handmade in Danner's Portland, Oregon factory using stitchdown construction, full-grain leather, and 1000 Denier nylon panels.

The Light Revival maintains the core specifications and construction methods of the original while incorporating modern updates including Vibram Megagrip outsole technology and OrthoLite footbeds. The boot is available in multiple colorways including Khaki, Wallowa, and Jones Canyon.

History

The original Danner Light was introduced in 1979 and became the first boot to use a GORE-TEX waterproof liner, which changed the outdoor footwear industry. For four decades, the Danner Light set standards for thru-hikes, weekend treks, and outdoor activities.

In 2019, Danner commemorated the 40th anniversary of the Danner Light by creating the Light Revival. The company's bootmakers researched and sought out leathers similar to those used on the original 1979 Danner Light to create an authentic reproduction. The Light Revival was designed to revive the patterns and designs from 1979 while bringing back the original spirit of the Danner Light.

Construction and materials

The Light Revival features stitchdown construction, a method where the upper is stitched to a welt before being attached to the outsole. This construction provides a wider platform for increased stability and allows the boot to be recrafted. Each pair is built by hand in Danner's Portland, Oregon factory from top to bottom.

The upper combines premium full-grain leather with 1000 Denier nylon panels and tongue for durability. The Wallowa colorway incorporates select pieces of softer suede in addition to full-grain leather for comfort around sensitive areas of the foot. The Jones Canyon variant features a suede upper inspired by desert landscapes.

The boot includes a fiberglass shank for support and stability, a PU midsole, and a removable Ortholite Airthotic foam footbed. The outsole is a Vibram Kletterlift with Megagrip technology designed for traction and stability on wet and dry surfaces. The boot incorporates a 100% waterproof and breathable GORE-TEX liner. Two sets of laces are included with each pair.

Specifications

The Light Revival has a height of 6 inches and weighs 61 ounces per pair. The boot is built on Last Type 650 and is non-insulated. The construction allows the boot to be recraftable, and each pair is made in the United States.

The style is known to run long, and Danner recommends sizing down a half size for the best fit.

Colorways

The Light Revival is produced in multiple colorway options. The Khaki variant is available in both 6-inch and 8-inch height versions. The Wallowa colorway features full-grain leather combined with softer suede panels. The Jones Canyon variant takes its name from a location on the lower Deschutes River and features a suede upper that references the desert landscape.
