Double-H is a western footwear manufacturer based in Martinsburg, Pennsylvania, established in 1955. The company produces cowboy and work boots and was the first in the United States to manufacture safety toe western boots.
Double-H Boots originated in 1955 when the H.H. Brown Shoe Company acquired a manufacturing facility in Richland, Pennsylvania, naming it Richland Shoe Co. The factory began producing cowboy and work boots in response to market demand. During the 1970s, the company developed the "snoot boot," which served as a cost-effective alternative to the harness boot. By this period, western boots became the company's primary product. The Richland plant became the first in the United States to produce safety toe western boots to Class 75 ANSI standards.
In 1981, operations expanded to a larger site in Womelsdorf, Pennsylvania. The company adopted the Double-H Boots name in 1993 to reflect its origins. Double-H became a subsidiary of H.H. Brown when Berkshire Hathaway acquired the parent company in 1991. The Womelsdorf plant closed in 2007, consolidating production at the Martinsburg facility.
Double-H Boots produces most footwear in Martinsburg, Pennsylvania, though some casual and fashion lines are made overseas. The company offers "Union Made" boots produced by members of the United Food and Commercial Workers Local 1776 Keystone State.
Double-H Boots uses full-grain leather in its footwear. Goodyear welt construction is used for selected models. Some boots use I.C.E. outsoles and AG7 footbeds as design features.
Double-H Boots manufactures a variety of products, including cowboy boots, work boots, and fashion footwear. The "Union Made" line features styles such as roper boots, harness boots, and safety toe work boots. In 1995, the company launched the Sonora line of western-inspired fashion footwear for women.
