The boot uses US hides that are 6.5-7oz thick, developed exclusively for Drew's Boots and tanned in Leon, Mexico with a process similar to Horween Chrome Excel. Construction features include double row stitchdown methods on a modified 55 last and Drew's industry-first pre-molded leather insole.

The 6-Inch Contractor uses US hides that are 6.5-7oz thick, with leather developed exclusively for Drew's Boots. The hides are sourced from the United States and tanned in Leon, Mexico, using a tanning process similar to Horween Chrome Excel or Seidel Double Shot. The leather features a pull-up effect and is double-stuffed with natural oils and waxes.

Drew's employs an industry-first pre-molded leather insole made from full grain vegetable-tanned leather that is 5-5.5 millimeters thick. Each insole is individually molded to the exact size and width over a period of 48 hours. This molding process doesn't compress the insole but significantly reduces break-in time for the wearer.

The boot is constructed using double row stitchdown construction on a modified 55 last. Additional construction elements include a five-layer heel stack, thick vegetable-tanned insole, vegetable-tanned heel counter, celastic toe box, and cut top design. The contractor series is built with Vibram 430 Mini Lug soles specifically chosen for versatility both on job sites and for casual wear.

The contractor series maintains the same upper design and pattern as Drew's Logger boots but incorporates shorter heights for increased versatility. Drew's modified their traditional 55 shoe last by adding approximately 1/8 inch to the outside to allow more room in the toe box, helping to eliminate potential pinkie rub issues.

The boot features 4 eyelets and 3 speed hooks for secure lacing. A distinctive feature of the contractor line is the second layer of leather on the toe cap, providing extra durability where it's needed most during demanding work applications. The instep has been raised slightly compared to the traditional last, allowing for easier foot entry.

Drew's recommends that customers size down 1/2 size from their seated Brannock size when ordering the 6-Inch Contractor. For example, a customer with a 10D seated Brannock measurement should order a 9.5D contractor boot. Alternatively, customers should size down 1.5 sizes from their average shoe size, such as ordering an 8.5D contractor for someone who typically wears a 10D sneaker.

The boots run slightly larger than comparable models from Red Wing, Wesco, and Wolverine brands. The modified 55 last provides additional toe box room while the raised instep design facilitates easier foot entry. The contractor series is available in sizes 6-13, typically offered in D and EE widths.
