Epaulet is a footwear brand established in 2008 in Redondo Beach, California. The company maintains its base of operations in the same city.
Epaulet was founded in 2008 by Eva Kuhle. Prior to starting Epaulet, Eva Kuhle worked as a corporate buyer at Saks Fifth Avenue. The first Epaulet location operated as a boutique on Smith Street in Brooklyn, New York, and carried both American and European designs.
Epaulet conducts production in the United States and the United Kingdom. The majority of its products are manufactured in Los Angeles.
Epaulet sources Ilcea Radica Calfskin leather from Italy, known as Museum Calf, which displays marbling patterns and a cloudy surface. Production of sneakers takes place in Portugal. These sneakers use full-grain leather from Italy's Gruppo Mastrotto tannery and feature soles made by the Italian firm Margom.
Epaulet produces footwear such as Museum Calf shoes, Chelsea boots, combat boots, and unfinished horsehide trainers. The Museum Calf Collection includes shoes made in limited quantities with Ilcea Radica Calfskin leather. Chelsea boots use Portuguese Cuoro Chromo Steerhide and suede from Gruppo Mastrotto tannery, and are produced in Portugal. Combat boots are made from Couro Cromo steerhide, use RiRi zippers, and employ Blake stitch construction. Unfinished horsehide trainers feature Italian front quarter hide designed to develop patina over time. The Hermosa Low and High sneakers draw on Southern California skate style and use vegetable-tanned Italian leather. The Tennis Shoe Collection is influenced by 1960s designs and uses Italian materials and Margom soles. The EPLA line encompasses denim, knits, sneakers, casual jackets, and fleece, produced in Los Angeles. Epaulet also offers custom clothing, including shirts, trousers, sportcoats, suits, and leather jackets with both in-person and remote fitting options.
