The Bison is a round-toed cowboy boot produced by Freebird Stores, a Denver, Colorado-based footwear company. The boot features modernized styling with traditional western boot elements including shaft stitching, pull straps, and toe stitch detailing.
Manufactured in Mexico using Goodyear welt construction, the Bison represents Freebird's handmade approach to boot making. The company was founded in 2009 and named after the classic Lynyrd Skynyrd song, with boots typically priced between $200 and $400.
The Bison features a round toe shape with unique embroidered shaft stitch detailing and traditional toe stitching. Pull straps are integrated into the design for ease of wear. Measurements taken from a US size 11 include a 1 ¾-inch heel height, 11 ½-inch shaft height, and 15 ½-inch shaft circumference.
The boot is constructed entirely of leather, including the upper, lining, and sole. Freebird employs Goodyear welt construction, described as the most durable and time-consuming method of boot construction. Each pair is handmade in Mexico, reflecting the company's reliance on Mexican manufacturing for approximately 85 percent of its footwear production.
The handcrafted nature of production involves hand-selected leathers and artful distressing techniques. Freebird's manufacturing approach uses high-quality leather that stretches over time for increased comfort.
