Georgia Boot was founded in 1937 under the name Georgia Shoe Manufacturing Co., Inc. The company began by producing work footwear for a range of industries. Georgia Boot expanded its product line over several decades to include boots for hunting and outdoor activities. In 2004, Rocky Brands, Inc. acquired Georgia Boot as part of a broader portfolio of footwear brands.

Georgia Boot employs several construction methods and sources a variety of materials for its footwear. The company developed SPR leather, which testing indicates is three times stronger than standard leathers and has an increased resistance to industrial chemicals and abrasion. Georgia Boot introduced Comfort Core insole technology in 1992, which uses layered cushioning. Many of the boots use Goodyear welt construction, a technique that enables the boots to be resoled.
