History
Amara Hark-Weber began learning shoemaking during a Master of Fine Arts program at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Her thesis project focused on footwear construction. After graduation, Hark-Weber studied with D.W. Frommer, Janne Melkersson, and Marcel Mrsan. She established her shoemaking studio in Saint Paul, Minnesota approximately a decade ago.
Manufacturing
Hark-Weber produces each pair of shoes by hand in her Saint Paul workshop. She works without staff or apprentices. All steps of the construction process take place in the studio.
Construction and materials
The studio uses full-grain leather hides to construct footwear. Leather soles are standard, though rubber soles can be chosen by the client. Shoes are designed to be serviceable and can be repaired and maintained.
Products
All footwear produced at Hark Weber Studio is custom-made for the individual client. The design process begins with discussion and existing models but results in shoes built to the client’s measurements and preferences. The typical price for a pair of custom shoes is $2,500, varying with design and materials.
