The Maize features a cutter toe shape paired with a 1-3/4 inch cutter underslung, leather stacked heel. The 13-inch shaft provides traditional cowboy boot coverage. A distinctive element of the design is the "Vine" historic stitch pattern from the HYER Boots archives, which distinguishes this model from contemporary cowboy boots in the market.

HYER manufactures the pull straps from military-strength nylon rather than traditional leather, providing increased durability. The boot includes a dual-density removable orthotic insert for comfort. Available colorways include sunrise retan and chocolate variations.

The Maize uses sunrise retan cowhide for both the vamp and top. Retan leather undergoes a two-stage tanning process, being tanned and "re-tanned" a second time. This double finishing method produces leather that is soft and supple while maintaining durability and weather resistance.

Construction follows the Goodyear welt method, which HYER Boots originally used in 1875. Every HYER boot is hand crafted using techniques from the company's original cowboy boot from circa 1800. The construction includes channeled leather insoles, lemonwood pegs, and cowhide leather linings. A bullhide heel counter provides structure, while a single-stitched leather welt connects the components.

The channeled leather insole allows the welt to be sewn directly into thick solid leather, with the foot sitting directly upon the insole. The oiled leather outsole repels dirt, water, and other elements. Premium full leather lining extends throughout the interior of the boot.
