Baobab Boot

The boot combines traditional heritage boot aesthetics with Jim Green's signature construction methods, featuring double-layer leather construction, 360-degree double row stitchdown construction, and locally sourced South African components. The Baobab takes its name from the iconic African baobab tree, reflecting the company's commitment to creating a distinctly South African heritage boot with reduced branding for a cleaner appearance.

The Baobab Boot employs double-layer leather construction with 2.2mm Nubuck leather as the outer layer, lined with 1.6mm calf leather. The Bronco variant uses 2.2mm Bronco Oily pull-up leather instead of Nubuck, also lined with 1.6mm calf leather. This double-layer construction aids in the boot's water-resistant properties, though they are not fully waterproof.

The boot features 360-degree double row stitchdown construction, allowing the boot to be resoled for extended life. The insole board is secured to the upper with double-stitched 2.2mm braided nylon cord, following the same construction methods used across Jim Green's product line. Structural support comes from a thermoplastic toe puff and heel stiffener, while a steel shank positioned between the insole board and sole provides additional stability and support.

Jim Green incorporated heritage boot elements including a veg-tan leather lasting board that molds to the wearer's feet for enhanced comfort. A gusseted tongue tucks neatly beneath the lacing reinforcement, and all components are locally sourced from South Africa, maintaining the company's commitment to supporting the domestic economy.

The Baobab Boot is constructed on the ASHM last, which presents a deceivingly narrow appearance while still offering Jim Green's traditional D width wide fit with a slightly tapered toe box. The boot is available in Houston Brown and Bronco color options, with sizing ranging from UK 6 to UK 13, corresponding to EU 39.5 through EU 48.5 and 24cm through 31cm foot lengths.

The boot utilizes a specialized ML sole designed for a combination of grip, comfort, and speed. This sole design combines wedge comfort with lugged traction, representing Jim Green's approach to heritage boot soles that address traditional wedge sole limitations across varied terrain. The sole features genuine rubber construction with an EVA wedge component to provide underfoot comfort.

The Baobab Boot is manufactured by Jim Green Footwear, a South African company founded in 1992 in Pietermaritzburg. The company represents over 30 years of South African bootmaking heritage, originally established to serve farmers who needed durable leather footwear, later expanding to supply miners and contract workers across southern Africa.

Jim Green maintains its commitment to local manufacturing with all components sourced within South Africa, supporting the domestic economy during challenging unemployment conditions. The company operates under third-generation family leadership, with managing director Gareth Crouch bringing experience from his previous work as a game ranger and safari guide in Kruger National Park.

The company demonstrates strong conservation values through its ranger boot donation program, where one free pair of boots is donated to an African game ranger for every 10 pairs sold.
