Justin is a western footwear brand based in Fort Worth, Texas. The company was established in 1879.
Herman Joseph "H.J." Justin founded the company in 1879 in Spanish Fort, Texas. The business began with a focus on boot repair for cowboys traveling the Chisholm Trail. Justin later started making custom boots and used decorative stitching to reinforce the leather and help prevent it from folding around the ankles.
In 1889, the company moved to Nocona, Texas, after the arrival of the railroad. Annie Justin created a self-measuring kit in the early 1890s that allowed customers to order boots by mail. This development enabled Justin to reach more customers outside their region.
H.J. Justin died in 1918, and his sons assumed control of the company. In 1925, they relocated operations to Fort Worth, Texas. The company expanded through the acquisition of Nocona Boot Company in 1981, Chippewa Shoe Company in 1984, and Tony Lama Boots in 1990. Justin Industries was sold to Berkshire Hathaway in 2000.
Justin operates manufacturing sites in the United States, with facilities in Texas and Missouri. Between 75 and 80 percent of Justin boots are produced overseas, mainly in China and Mexico. Boots made in the United States are identified with labels that read "Made in USA with global parts."
Justin makes boots from materials such as full-grain leather, rubber, and synthetic fabrics. The company uses traditional techniques in its manufacturing process, including Goodyear welt construction.
Justin produces western boots, work boots, and casual boots in a wide range of styles and materials. The company also manufactures accessories such as belts and wallets made from leather.
