Natural Ghost leather begins with French origin cowhide processed through La Bretagna's vegetable tanning methods using plant-based extracts from bark, fruits, leaves, and wood. The full aniline dyeing process penetrates completely through the leather thickness, establishing natural tan tones throughout the material before the white wax coating is applied to the smooth grain surface.

The leather is produced in 3-4 ounce thickness (approximately 1.2-1.6 millimeters) with a firm temper that provides structure while remaining workable for various applications. The construction features a smooth grain surface with the characteristic white wax coating and a smooth nap flesh side suitable for burnishing.

Natural Ghost leather presents a white waxed surface when new, with tan tones visible beneath the coating. The full-grain structure maintains high yield at 85 percent or greater, while the medium firmness (rated approximately 6 out of 10) provides balanced handling properties. The metal-free, hypoallergenic construction results from La Bretagna's exclusive use of vegetable tanning materials, creating leather that is also naturally fireproof.

The wax coating serves dual purposes of protecting the leather from weathering while allowing natural aging processes to develop. As the white finish gradually wears away with use, the underlying natural tan color emerges, creating distinctive patina patterns based on individual usage intensity and wear locations.

The aging characteristics of Natural Ghost leather center on the gradual removal of the white wax coating through friction and handling. High-contact areas lose the wax finish first, exposing the natural tan tones beneath and creating contrast between worn and unworn sections. The full aniline dye throughout the leather thickness ensures consistent color development as the surface evolves.

The natural flesh-like appearance of the unwaxed areas develops into tan brown patina over time, with the rate and pattern of change varying according to individual use.
