The Roehampton is a Derby boot with toe cap manufactured by Loake, an English shoemaker founded in 1880. Part of the 1880 Classic collection, the boot features Goodyear welted construction with a Victory rubber sole and storm welt design. The Roehampton is handcrafted at Loake's Wood Street factory in Kettering, Northamptonshire, England, on the Capital last with F fitting.
The boot is fully leather lined with a leather insole and uses premium calf leather uppers. Available in multiple finishes including dark brown burnished calf, oxblood grain, and black calf, the Roehampton is designed for both formal and weekend wear.
The Roehampton features Goodyear welted construction, an intricate process that takes up to eight weeks to complete each pair. The method involves stitching the upper to a welt, which is then attached to the sole, providing durability and allowing the boots to be resoled. The boot incorporates storm welt construction, which adds water resistance through an additional layer of protection where the upper meets the sole.
Loake manufactures the Roehampton at their Wood Street factory in Kettering, Northamptonshire, which has operated since 1894. The facility spans approximately 20,000 square feet and accommodates over 300 workers. Each pair requires approximately 200 different operations performed by 130 skilled workers using up to 75 shoe parts. Since the company's founding in 1880, Loake has produced an estimated 50 million pairs of Goodyear welted shoes.
The boot uses a Victory rubber sole designed for longevity and grip. The interior is fully leather lined, with a leather insole providing comfort. The upper is constructed from premium calf leather, available in three finishes: dark brown burnished calf, oxblood grain, and black calf.
The Roehampton is built on the Capital last, one of Loake's most popular lasts used throughout their 1880 collection. The Capital last features a slightly chiseled toe shape and is designed to accommodate the majority of men's feet in the United Kingdom. The boot is made to an F fitting, which is medium width, and runs true to size. Loake uses over 37 different lasts in their lineup, with modern lasts produced using computer-operated lathes from solid plastic.
The Roehampton belongs to the 1880 Classic collection, which consists of classic styles crafted from high-quality calf leathers featuring Goodyear welted construction. The collection reflects the traditional heritage of Loake dating back to 1880, when the company was founded by brothers William, John, and Thomas Loake. The 1880 Classic collection is all manufactured in Loake's Northamptonshire factory and represents the company's premium range, which has over 140 years of shoemaking experience.
