Lost Dutchman Leather is a leather goods brand based in Apache Junction, Arizona, established in 2017. The company produces handcrafted leather products, such as wallets, belts, and other accessories. Operations focus on small-batch, traditional methods for item construction.
Nate Walker founded Lost Dutchman Leather after moving from Toledo, Ohio, to Mesa, Arizona. He began making leather goods at age 13 and opened an Etsy shop in 2017. As online sales increased, Walker devoted himself to the business full-time. By 2022, the company reported an estimated 40 percent rise in annual sales and production.
Lost Dutchman Leather initially worked out of a rented space in Mesa, Arizona. By 2022, the brand had moved into a 550-square-foot dedicated workshop. The facility uses natural lighting for production and houses tools such as a 12-ton hydraulic press. Most of the company’s goods feature hand-stitched construction.
The company uses full-grain, vegetable-tanned leather sourced from the Wickett & Craig tannery in Pennsylvania. Leather color options include russet, buck brown, olive, burgundy, and black. Products are sewn with Ritza 25 "Tiger" thread, which is a lightly waxed, UV-resistant polyester material available in several colors.
The product range includes hand-stitched wallets, bifold wallets, card holders, keychains, and notebook covers. Well-known models are "The Franklin," a stitchless wallet made from one piece of leather, and "The Dutchman," a bifold wallet. Lost Dutchman Leather offers made-to-order pieces and periodic releases using less common leathers, with ready-to-ship stock tending to sell out.
