The Lincoln Boot is a cap-toe work boot manufactured by Origin in Maine. The boot features a hybrid stitchdown construction method and is made with American-sourced materials, including pull-up leather from Seidel Tanning. Available in black or brown leather with multiple sole options, the Lincoln Boot retails for approximately $350. The design shares similarities with classic American work boots from the 1950s workshop era, with distinctive decorative stitching along the waist.
The Lincoln Boot uses a hybrid construction method that combines stitchdown and cemented techniques. The front half of the upper leather is stitched down to the midsole using stitchdown construction, which allows the boot to be resoled by a cobbler. The Vibram lug sole is both cemented and screwed into the midsole for attachment. The back half of the sole, including the waist and heel sections, relies on cemented (glued) construction.
This hybrid approach allows the boots to be resoled multiple times, as the stitchdown construction in the front half can be easily separated and reattached by a cobbler. The cemented waist construction represents a potential weakness for water resistance compared to a full 360-degree welt, as water can penetrate through the glued sections when the boots are submerged.
The Lincoln Boot uses pull-up leather sourced from Seidel Tanning, a material known for its water-resistant properties. Both the toe cap and heel feature double-layered construction, providing 5mm of leather thickness at these high-wear areas. The boots include a foam insole and leather lining for comfort.
The Vibram rubber outsole is manufactured in Massachusetts. Additional American-sourced components include woven laces made in North Carolina and sewing thread also produced in North Carolina. A distinctive design element is the swirly-stitch pattern on either side of the boot at the waist. Origin has reinforced the interior waist areas with an extra layer of roughout leather.
The Lincoln Boot is available with three sole options: heavy lug, mini-lug, and Vibram Christy wedge. The boots are offered in black or brown leather.
The Lincoln Boot is built on a Brannock device last, which provides true-to-size fit. The boots are available in EE wide sizes. The fit characteristics include a narrow forefoot and wider heel, which can result in initial heel slip that diminishes as the boots break in. The construction does not include a steel or fiberglass shank in the midsole, which may lead to insufficient arch support for some wearers over extended periods.
The break-in period for the Lincoln Boot is described as easy, with the boots becoming comfortable soon after initial wear. The pull-up leather provides water resistance suitable for rain and splashes, but the boots are not fully waterproof. When submerged, water can enter through the cemented waist construction. The stitchdown construction in the front half provides durability and allows for repeated resoling, extending the lifespan of the boots.
