The Field Boot is a heritage-style boot manufactured by Perera Shoemaker in Antigua, Guatemala. Inspired by vintage military footwear, the boot features a hand-painted finish and 270-degree handmade Goodyear welt construction. The model is available in multiple leather types including American bison and Conceria Walpier Buttero, with various sole configurations ranging from full leather to Dr. Sole and Vibram options.
The Field Boot represents Perera Shoemaker's approach to heritage boot making, combining military-inspired design with artisanal construction techniques. Each pair is built by craftsmen using hand-lasting, hand-welting, and hand-stitching methods.
The Field Boot draws inspiration from vintage military field boots, featuring a silhouette designed for everyday wear. The boot is available with an olive green hand-painted patina finish that references its military heritage. This patina art technique imparts a distinctive tone and texture to the leather surface.
The model is offered in several variations. A wingtip version features broguing perforations on the cap toe, heel, and part of the shaft, with an European-inspired design and hand-painted colors applied by patina masters. Standard versions maintain a plainer aesthetic while retaining the military-influenced proportions.
Some configurations combine multiple leather types, such as whisky vachetta leather paired with whisky bison leather and an ocean blue heel tab, creating visual contrast within the boot's design.
The Field Boot uses a 270-degree handmade Goodyear welt construction, a method that allows for resoling while providing durability. This construction technique involves stitching the upper to a welt, which is then stitched to the sole with cork filling between the insole and outsole.
The production process is completed entirely by hand. The lasting process involves craftsmen carefully shaping and securing the leather uppers to the insole without mechanical assistance. Premium leathers are cut to specification before assembly, and the welting and stitching are performed manually by artisans with decades of experience producing footwear.
Perera Shoemaker operates a workshop in Antigua, Guatemala, where each pair requires more than 16 hours of manual labor. The company maintains a master-apprentice training program to preserve these construction techniques across generations.
The Field Boot is built on the PB Last, Perera Shoemaker's proprietary last shape. The model is available in US men's sizes 7 through 14, including half sizes at 7.5, 8.5, 9.5, 10.5, 11.5, and 12.5.
The sizing follows standard US Brannock measurements. For reference, a US men's Brannock 8.5E corresponds to PB Last size 8.5E.
The Field Boot is available in multiple standard colorways: nut brown, olive, navy, and black. A premium nut brown bison leather option is offered at a higher price point than the standard leathers.
For specialized configurations, the boot can be ordered with Conceria Walpier Ghost Buttero leather. Conceria Walpier, founded in 1974 in Tuscany, Italy, is a member of the Consorzio Vera Pelle Italiana Conciata al Vegetale (Genuine Italian Vegetable Tanned Leather Consortium). Buttero leather is produced using traditional vegetable tanning with natural tree bark extracts, resulting in an aniline finish that highlights the natural surface and develops patina with wear.
The base price includes a full leather sole. Several upgrades are available:
Mini lug half sole (+$20)
Vibram Tygum half sole (+$50)
Vibram Middlebury Gumlite (+$70)
Dr. Sole #1140 Supergrip II half sole in black or olive
The Dr. Sole #1140 Supergrip II takes design cues from early-20th-century half soles while using a proprietary modern compound. The sole features a classic vintage-inspired design with an oil-resisting compound and ice grip plugs for enhanced traction. Each Dr. Sole unit is affixed to a thick layer of leather and paired with a matching Dr. Sole 1230 Supergrip Heel.
Dr. Sole was established in December 2011 by Chao-Yung Lin in Taipei, Taiwan. The company launched its first product, the Supergrip half sole, in 2011 and has since supplied custom soles to bootmakers including Wesco.
The Field Boot's base price is $666.40 USD for standard leather configurations. The Field Boot Double Nut Brown variant starts at $683.20 USD, while the Field Boot Nut Brown Bison option begins at $700.00 USD.
