Happy new year! Funny story about these Trickers. My third pair from the house; I configured these with the help of David Jeffery, their international sales manager at an event hosted by Division Road outside Charlottesville, VA. At the time I was really coming in fiending for something funky leather wise; a green or gray leather. Trickers had a brown-olive kudu they called “Crocodile” back then that I was fairly set on for this pattern. After searching through the stacks of swatches as David patiently waited, he suggested this snuff naked kudu. “Eh, another brown boot. I’ve got plenty” I thought. But, David sold me as he described its characteristics. We agreed a tonal dark brown edge offset by brass eyelets would give this makeup a dignified but subdued presence, and, a couple years later, I sure am glad I went with this more conservative option. The pull-up heavy nature of this particular kudu continues to surprise me, especially in daylight, and they’ve come a long way from the very dark brown out of the box. This is a long game leather; sometimes it’s not what you see, but what *can* be.
